The Colorado Sprawl Action Center was formally started in June 1999, as a project of CoPIRG's larger "Save our State" program. Now under the auspices of Environment Colorado's Smart Growth Project, the Center provides citizens with the tools and information they need to advocate for quality development in their communities. We offer pro bono campaign consultations and a library of tools and services including case studies, planning tools, and a variety of sample fact sheets, press releases and other documents you may need to run effective campaigns. The Sprawl Action Center hosts an annual Citizens Conference on growth issues and helps network local groups around the state with each other, larger non-profits, legal and planning experts, and state and federal officials.
Arenas in which we provide assistance include:
- stopping sprawling development,
- strengthening local input for city and county master plan development,
-implementing smart growth principles in community development,
- securing commitment and finances for alternative transportation,
- generating funds for open space purchasing, and
- increasing municipal commitment to providing affordable housing solutions.
Staff
The Colorado Sprawl Action Center exists as a project of its parent organization, the Environment Colorado .
